TNDC SEEKS INPUT FROM TAHLTAN ARTISTS FOR ART DISPLAY IN ITS VANCOUVER PROJECT OFFICE

Aligning with a desire to engage, support and raise awareness of Tahltan artists, TNDC is considering showcasing Tahltan artwork at its Vancouver project office. In addition to purchasing some pieces for TNDC’s permanent display, this would be an opportunity for Tahltan artist exposure and potential sale to TNDC’s clients, contractors and other visitors.

TNDC is in the early stages of exploring this initiative, including the feasibility, planning, logistics and execution, and is seeking the input of Tahltan artists to gauge their interest in participation and feedback to help shape the strategy.

THE VISION

TNDC would display the art with a card describing the piece, artist and price. If someone is interested in purchasing a piece, TNDC would connect them with the artist to facilitate the sale directly.

THE CONCEPT

The artist would be loaning their piece(s) to TNDC for a to-be-determined period of time (e.g. three months). TNDC would not charge artists for displaying the pieces. The artist would be responsible for transporting/shipping the piece(s) to our Vancouver office and collecting payment from the purchaser; TNDC will not process the financial transaction.

TNDC would display the piece(s) and have them insured in the event of loss, theft or damage. In addition to the pieces being visible to clients and others visiting the office for meetings, TNDC may consider open house receptions with clients for them to view art. There may be an opportunity for artists to attend these events to discuss their pieces, at the artist’s expense.

YOUR INPUT

If you are a Tahltan artist, we want to hear your thoughts on the idea of Tahltan artists displaying their art at TNDC’s Vancouver project office for potential purchase by our visitors:

  1. Are you interested in having your art on display?
  2. What type of art do you create?
  3. Where do you live?
  4. Would you pay to ship your art to TNDC’s Vancouver office to display?
  5. What would be an acceptable period of time to have your art on display?
  6. Would you attend a TNDC client art viewing reception if you had to cover your own travel costs?
  7. Do you have other suggestions on how TNDC could support Tahltan artists?

Please email olivia.mortimer@tndc.ca with your name, contact number, email and answers to the questions above by October 30th.
