TNDC SALUTES OUR FEMALE WORKFORCE ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN IN MININGJune 15th is International Day for Women in Mining (IDWIM), a global day to celebrate the achievements of women in mining while raising awareness of the need for gender equality action in the mining sector.
IDWIM’s 2024 theme is “I am Mining and I Belong”. It carries a powerful message of inclusion, empowerment, claiming space, and advocating for positive change within an industry undergoing transformation. As the mining sector evolves, this phrase serves as a powerful reminder of the diverse individuals who contribute to it and the importance of creating a more inclusive and sustainable future for all. As an Indigenous owned, heavy construction company working in the mineral exploration, mine development and mining sector, IDWIM resonates deeply for TNDC. It doubles-down our commitment to carving out pathways for women, particularly Tahltan women, providing them with the tools, training and opportunities to grow, develop and ascend within our ranks. This day reinforces our commitment to transforming the mining industry – a field where women have historically been underrepresented. Women continue to make up only 15.9% of the BC Mining workforce and 14% of the Canadian mining workforce (Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) 2024). TNDC has superseded the industry average with 41% of our workforce being female. More than a number; it is a beacon of progress and a statement of our relentless pursuit to elevate this percentage even higher, solidifying our status as an Employer of Choice. Our dedication goes beyond mere statistics; it is about fostering a workplace culture that thrives on safety, respect, equality, equity and inclusivity for our female employees. By championing these values, TNDC aims not only to contribute to a more gender-balanced world but also to inspire change within the mining sector and beyond. We are committed to leading by example, demonstrating the powerful impact of equity, inclusion and diversity in driving innovation and success. TNDC is honoured to employ some of the industry's most talented women, in a variety of roles within our project sites and corporate offices, including cooks, cleaners, operators and administrators, as well as frontline supervisors, mid-level managers and senior leaders. Together, we are building a future where every woman in our workforce feels empowered, valued and poised to achieve greatness. "International Day for Women in Mining is more than just a celebration; it's a call to action for gender equality within the mining sector. At TNDC, we are proud to say that 41% of our workforce is female, a testament to our unwavering commitment to inclusion and empowerment. The 2024 theme, 'I am Mining and I Belong,' resonates deeply with us as it underscores the importance of creating a space where all individuals feel valued and empowered. Our Tahltan HEO Training Program, with its 100% female participation this year, and our Employee HEO Training Program, highlight our dedication to providing the tools, training and opportunities for women, particularly Tahltan women, to thrive and lead. We are not just fostering a gender-balanced workplace; we are inspiring industry-wide change, demonstrating that diversity and inclusion drive innovation and success."
