CELEBRATING TAHLTAN DAY ON OCTOBER 18TH

On October 18th, we come together to celebrate Tahltan Day, a day that holds profound meaning for the Tahltan Nation and for all of us at TNDC. This day commemorates the signing of the 1910 Declaration of the Tahltan Tribe — a powerful moment in history when Tahltans stood united, asserting their sovereignty, and their rights to their land. This year marks the 114th anniversary of the Declaration.

As the business arm of the Tahltan Nation, our mission is to promote economic growth while honouring values like respect for the land, cultural preservation, and community strength. We strive to create sustainable opportunities for the Tahltan people and the region, aligning with the vision outlined in the Declaration.

What the 1910 Declaration Means for TNDC:

  1. Sovereignty and Self-Governance: For TNDC, this means the company operates not just as a business. It is a reminder that TNDC’s ultimate responsibility is to the Tahltan people and their continued control over their lands and resources.
  2. Protection of the Land: For TNDC, this means prioritizing sustainable practices that protect natural resources and uphold the integrity of the land.
  3. Economic Empowerment and Opportunity: For TNDC, this means actively creating economic opportunities for the Tahltan Nation, while ensuring that benefits flow back into the community.
  4. Unity and Resilience: The Declaration was a symbol of unity among the Tahltan people in 1910, and today it continues to serve as a source of inspiration and resilience. For TNDC, it is a reminder that standing together in the face of challenges is the key to success. By fostering collaboration between the Iskut Band, Tahltan Band and Tahltan Central Government, TNDC works to strengthen the bonds within the Tahltan Nation.

TNDC is committed to incorporating the 1910 Declaration into its mission and operations. By celebrating this day with pride and purpose, TNDC honours the legacy of the Declaration and reaffirms its commitment to building a future where the Tahltan Nation continues to thrive.
