Welcoming the Community to Our New Home

Grey skies couldn’t dampen spirits when TNDC opened the doors of our newly renovated headquarters on June 30th for a day of celebration. TNDC welcomed more than 300 Tahltans, members of the Dease Lake community, clients and business partners for the grand opening of our newly-renovated administration offices, warehouse and maintenance shop.

TNDC staff gave tours of the space, a barbecue lunch was provided and door prizes were drawn for various items, including 10-minute helicopter tours giving an aerial view of TNDC’s facility and Dease Lake to 50 lucky people. Our thanks to TNDC business partners Lakelse Air for providing the helicopter tours and Pacific Coastal Airlines for sponsoring the lunch.

TNDC embarked on a building expansion in the spring of 2015, after outgrowing our old facility. It took a year and grew our space from 7,010 square feet to 13,360 square feet. The addition includes a new warehouse space for shipping, receiving and parts, plus expansion of the office for administration and maintenance shop to service TNDC equipment.

The office, which houses TNDC’s headquarters staff for our corporate, construction, camp services, mechanical and business development divisions, doubled in size. The maintenance shop, which now includes a tool crib, wash bay, welding bay, shop area and repair area, has tripled in size. There is also a new dedicated warehouse with official shipping and receiving. Twenty-five staff currently work out of the new space, supporting operations employing between 200 and 400 people annually. The extra space will improve efficiencies in all departments and support our long-term growth.

Staff moved into the new space in April, but waited to open the doors until the weather improved and to enable more Tahltans to share in this exciting milestone of our Nation’s business arm. The event coincided with the Elders Gathering on June 30th and the Tahltan Annual General Assembly, held July 1 to 3 in Dease Lake, when Tahltans from inside and outside the territory gather in the community.

If you weren’t able to attend the open house, we invite you to stop by the office when you’re in Dease Lake and we’ll give you a personal tour. In the meantime, you can check out more photos of our new space and guests from the day.
